Closing arguments are expected this week in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the former labor and delivery nurse who was charged with murdering her three kids—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan—on the evening of Jan. 24, 2023. Both sides have acknowledged Lindsay was the one who strangled her three kids in the basement of her Duxbury, Massachusetts, home, but the fight in the courtroom is instead on her mental state while doing it. In what has been described as the “battle of the experts,” medical professionals have given conflicting testimony about Clancy’s mental state. A psychiatrist for the prosecution said that he believed Clancy was not in a psychosis, but instead exhibiting the behaviors of someone suffering from a “major depressive episode.” A psychiatrist for the defense said he thought she was in a postpartum psychosis, and in his opinion, was “unable to conform her conduct to the requirements of the law on the day that she took the lives of her children.” Former prosecutor Margaret McLean joined “Forbes True Crime” to discuss the standout moments from the trial.
