Today’s Wordle Answer: Thursday, August 20

Today’s Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

Well I finally lost a round to the Wordle Bot, not that Mr. Bot did all that great, either. CRANE was a decent opener, leaving me with just 64 words, and I really thought SPOUT would be a good second guess, but I had 8 left. And then I fell into the repeat trap. DRILL gave me four green letters. FRILL kept those four and nothing more. Thankfully, GRILL got me to the Wordle on guess #5.

Competitive Wordle Score

The Bot and I tie with four, earning 0 points each. Our August totals remain quite skewed as I take my revenge:

Erik: 24 points

Wordle Bot: 4 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

Murky — from Middle English mirke/murk, meaning “dark, gloomy, obscure,” from Old Norse myrkr, “darkness” or “dark.” It’s related to Icelandic myrkur, “darkness.” The literal sense of “dark, lacking light” eventually broadened to mean “cloudy or dirty” (especially water) and figuratively “unclear, obscure, or morally dubious.”
