Today’s NYT Strands hints and answers

Tuesday has returned and I find myself on the road, on a little adventure, or as some like to call it “a work trip.” I prefer adventure. But whether it’s business or pleasure, there’s always time for a puzzle game or two. Let’s tackle today’s Strands!

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Clue: This is pretty straightforward. Words that mean mirror image or clone.

I kind of dislike these very obvious Strands themes. I prefer when there’s some clever play on words, or when the theme is obvious but still involves very difficult words. Words for “spitting image” could all be spit-related, for instance. Saliva, phlegm, slobber. Instead, we get REPLICA and DOUBLE and FACSIMILE (that one I thought of right away). COPYTHAT isn’t even a particularly interesting spangram. Oh well, I guess we need easy Strands puzzles sometimes. It’s just a bit too often for my liking.
