Thoroughbred runner Hit Show is a shining example of the American dream and as the United States celebrates its 250thbirthday, this striking gray race horse continues to chase greatness in the sport of kings. Hard work, courage, and dedication have been his building blocks, much like the country he calls home. The Suburban Stakes at Saratoga on Independence Day will offer this Brad Cox trained son of Candy Ride another opportunity for graded stakes glory.
Persistence Makes Hit Show A Horse Racing Hero
Born in Kentucky, Hit Show has been a consistent runner throughout his racing career. Since winning his first start on October 9, 2022, the Hits have continued to come as he has been to the starting gates in 21 Stakes during his 26-race career with 9 trips to the winner’s circle. Having earned top honors in Stakes company in four consecutive years, Hit Show has been a warrior. Seizing opportunity when presented, his courage and late-running style has allowed him to run into the hearts of many.
The biggest win of Hit Show’s career came in the 2025 Dubai World Cup. Playing the lead role in this “Miracle On Ice” saga, this Wathnan Racing owned runner made like the 1980 U.S. hockey team and pulled off the unthinkable. Running with authority down the stretch, Hit Show rolled home ahead of some of the world’s best race horses at odds of 50 to 1. Considered an afterthought going into the gates, this American horsepower put on a Show in front of the entire world.
Continuing to shine in this his fifth year of racing, this six-year-old Brad Cox barn veteran won the Mineshaft Stakes at Fair Grounds in New Orleans before finishing a respectable fifth in this year’s Dubai World Cup and a bottled up third in the Blame Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 30.

Suburban Stakes A Good Spot For A Tough Runner
Run at Saratoga Race Course in New York, the Suburban Stakes looks like a nice fit for Hit Show. Eleven talented runners will line up for their share of $500,000 so this is no easy task. The field does feature some front-running speed horses in Antiquarian, Phileas Fogg, and Forged Steel, which could set the table nicely for a horse that loves to close. The mile and a quarter distance also looks to benefit Hit Show as the further the better suits his style.
“Hit Show is doing very well right now and has been training great”, says Brad Cox. “I thought he ran a great race in the Blame and came out of it in good shape. We like the idea of giving him another eighth of a mile in the Suburban.”
Hit Show has 12 wins in 26 starts with 2 seconds and 2 thirds while earning just over $9.4 million on the track. The Suburban Stakes is carded as race 8 at Saratoga on July 4 with an expected post time of 4:42 pm eastern.
