IndyCar’s Andretti Global Racing will keep its current three-driver lineup intact for the 2027 season as Marcus Ericsson will return to the team. Ericsson, the winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 2022 with Chip Ganassi Racing, was in the final year of his contract at Andretti Global.
The team announced Ericsson’s return on Thursday, August 6.
“One of our priorities has been building consistency across our IndyCar program, and bringing Marcus back is an important part of that,” Andretti Global President Jill Gregory said. “He’s shown exactly what he’s capable of this season through the speed and results he’s delivered. Keeping our driver lineup together next season allows us to build on the chemistry and performance we’ve established as a team.”
Marcus Ericsson’s Improved 2026 Season At Andretti Global
Since joining Andretti Global in 2024, Ericsson has played a key role in the team’s continued success. Through the opening 12 races of the 2026 season, the Swede has earned his first career NTT P1 Award, a podium finish at World Wide Technology Raceway, six top 10 finishes and has led 132 laps, putting together one of the strongest seasons of his IndyCar career.
“I’m really excited about the contract extension,” Ericsson said. “I think it’s been a good year for us. We’ve really been turning things around after last year, and we’ve put in a lot of hard work, and that’s really been paying off. The results haven’t always gone our way this year, but I feel like we’ve been competitive and in the mix on every type of track. That makes me excited for next year and to be able to build on the momentum we’ve created this year, so I’m super excited about that.
“I’m very thankful to Jill, Dan (Towriss, team partner), Cassidy (Towriss, team partner) and everyone else on the team for the trust they’ve put in me and for believing in me. Now we’re going to finish this season strong, put our heads down and come back even stronger next year.”
Marcus Ericsson’s Return Provides Andretti Global With Continuity
With Power and Kirkwood already confirmed for 2027, Ericsson’s return provides continuity to a lineup that has consistently delivered speed and results throughout the 2026 season, combining for one victory, two pole positions, 11 top five finishes and a run for the Championship title entering the final stretch of the season.
Earlier this season on July 3 at Mid-Ohio, Ericsson indicated to me that he was feeling more confident about a return and that discussions with the team were very “positive.”
One month later, that positive direction was fulfilled with a new contract for the popular driver from Sweden.
