Lizzo’s New Album Disappoints As It Reaches Only One Billboard Chart

Lizzo waited more than half a decade before finally making it big in the music industry. The singer and rapper began releasing mixtapes in 2012 and dropped her first album, Lizzobangers, in the fall of 2013. It wasn’t until 2019 that several of Lizzo’s previously released singles, including “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell,” among others, reached Billboard‘s charts and rose to impressive positions years after fans originally fell in love with them.

There was a short period when Lizzo was a certified hitmaker, and it seemed she could do no wrong. Between 2019 and 2023, she scored multiple No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100, dominated streaming platforms and collected several Grammys.

Since then, however, Lizzo’s luck has changed. A variety of factors, including lawsuits filed against her by previous backup dancers, have forced the Grammy and Emmy winner’s star to fall. Lizzo has been working to turn things around since 2025, but none of the singles she has released since then have performed well, and her recently-released fifth album, Bitch, disappoints as it arrives on just one Billboard tally this week.

Lizzo Debuts Bitch on Only One Billboard Chart

Lizzo dropped Bitch on June 5, and this week it only manages to reach a single Billboard chart – and just barely. The set opens at No. 46 on the Top Album Sales list, which focuses entirely on purchases. Digital downloads, as well as CDs, cassettes and vinyl are all included in the ranking’s methodology, and in its first seven-day tracking period, Bitch managed to sell just 2,650 copies, according to Luminate.

Bitch Marks a New Low for Lizzo

As it hits the ranking, Bitch becomes Lizzo’s lowest-peaking set on the Top Album Sales chart. The project snags that dubious honor from Coconut Oil, an EP that topped out at No. 45 back in September 2019. Lizzo’s breakout set Cuz I Love You peaked at No. 2 in May 2019. A few months before Coconut Oil launched. In July 2022, she earned her first – and so far only – No. 1 with Special.

Lizzo Misses Several Major Rankings with Her New Album

The fact that Bitch failed to land on any other Billboard charts is notable. The project is her first traditional album to miss the Billboard 200, the ranking of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.S., in more than half a decade. Lizzo sent Cuz I Love You to No. 4 and almost conquered that roster with Special several years later. Bitch also completely misses any genre-specific tallies, such as the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums or Top Rap Albums rosters, and it did not perform well enough on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music to land on the 50-space Top Streaming Albums chart. None of the singles shared from Bitch, beginning with “Don’t Make Me Love You,” which dropped in March, have become chart wins, either.

Lizzo Lands the Lowest Sales Debut of the Week

The Top Album Sales chart features 50 spaces, and this week, 16 titles debut. Lizzo’s Bitch is the lowest-ranking of the bunch, coming in one space beneath actor Jeff Goldblum’s latest, Night Bloom. Half a dozen projects start their time inside the top 10, including new offerings from Niall Horan, Malcolm Todd, Evanescence and more.

Here are all of the debuts on this week’s Top Album Sales chart.

  • No. 1 – Niall Horan – Dinner Party
  • No. 2 – Malcolm Todd – Do That Again
  • No. 3 – Evanescence – Sanctuary
  • No. 6 – Death Cab for Cutie – I Built You a Tower
  • No. 8 – The Red Clay Strays – Grateful
  • No. 10 – Modest Mouse – Eraser and Amaze
  • No. 13 – Barry Manilow – What a Time
  • No. 15 – Vince Staples – Cry Baby
  • No. 16 – Nine Inch Nails – Tron Ares: Divergence
  • No. 17 – Pink Floyd – 8-tracks
  • No. 25 – Sierra Ferrell – Live at Third Man Records
  • No. 26 – MEOVV – Bite Now
  • No. 32 – August Burns Red – Season of Surrender
  • No. 42 – Van Halen – 5150: Live in New Haven 1986
  • No. 45 – Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra – Night Blooms
  • No. 46 – Lizzo – Bitch
