Halloween was only a little more than two weeks ago, and Thanksgiving is still well over a week away, but it seems that in America, the Christmas season has already begun. For many years, millions of people across the United States did not focus on the holiday until after Thanksgiving, or perhaps even when December rolled around. Now, it is whenever Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” becomes a hit again.
In 2025, the yuletide staple returns to the Billboard tallies earlier than expected, as it seems that Americans are eager to begin playing the upbeat cut once more. As “All I Want for Christmas Is You” finds its way back to multiple rosters, including the Hot 100, Carey makes history with the smash in yet another manner and ties one of the most successful solo female superstars of the current generation.

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” flies back onto the Hot 100 this frame, landing at No. 31. The track has now spent 72 weeks on the list of the most consumed tunes throughout the U.S. since it debuted back in 2000, just over a quarter century ago.

As “All I Want for Christmas Is You” hits 72 weeks on the Hot 100, it ties as the tenth-longest-charting hit of all time. The Christmas favorite is currently on the same level as “Wildflower” by Billie Eilish, which also managed the same run. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is sure to continue to climb on the Hot 100 for at least another few frames, so its sum will improve very soon.

The same cannot be said for “Wildflower.” Eilish’s final single from her Hit Me Hard and Soft album — which was recently nominated for multiple Grammys, including both Record and Song of the Year — became the tenth-longest-charting tune in Hot 100 history just last week. Then, due to Billboard’s recurrent rules, it was forcibly removed from the tally, and it is no longer present and will likely never appear on the list again.
While Eilish may have only recently passed Carey’s record – though the two women are already tied again – “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has a chance to catch up. By the time holiday songs fall off the Billboard rosters in January 2026, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” may have advanced again on the all-time list of the longest-charting songs.

Just ahead of Eilish and Carey sits “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz. That tune spent 76 weeks on the Hot 100 between 2008 and 2009. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” could easily score four more stays — and perhaps even more — on the list in the coming months.
Can Mariah Carey Catch Up to Dua Lipa and Shaboozey?
A pair of tunes are tied as the seventh-longest-running hits ever, and they are just one week ahead of “I’m Yours.” Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” which was at one time credited as a solo cut and in other instances as a collaboration with DaBaby, as well as Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” held on for 77 turns. Whether Carey will make it to that sum this year, or if she will have to wait until holiday 2026, is yet to be seen.

The record for the most weeks spent on the Hot 100 by any one track was reset earlier this year. Teddy Swims saw his breakout smash “Lose Control” rack up 112 stays, becoming the first cut to make it to triple-digit turns on the roster. That winning streak prompted Billboard to change how the Hot 100 is compiled, and since then, “Lose Control,” as well as fellow tracks like Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” and “Wildflower,” have vanished.
