Summer just got a whole lot steamier with the streaming debut of A24’s rom-com Materialists. The film — 2025’s highest-grossing romantic comedy so far — premiered in theaters last month and is already available to stream on digital platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV+.
Written and directed by Past Lives’ Celine Song, Materialists follows professional matchmaker Lucy Mason (Dakota Johnson), who faces her own romantic dilemma: whether to explore a relationship with her ex, struggling actor John (Chris Evans), or with wealthy commodities broker Harry (Pedro Pascal).
“A young New York City matchmaker’s lucrative business gets complicated as she finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex,” the official synopsis from A24 reads. The film also stars Sawyer Spielberg, Zoë Winters and Marin Ireland.
Materialists had a solid run at the box office and recently crossed the $50 million mark worldwide, raking in $35.64 million from domestic theaters and $14.4 million from international markets, according to Box Office Mojo. As for its critical reception, Materialists holds an impressive 79% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In his review, The Hollywood Reporter’s critic David Rooney praised the film as “refreshingly complex look at modern love, self-worth and the challenges of finding a partner in an unaffordable city, which once again treats three points of a romantic triangle with equal integrity and compassion.”

Materalists is currently available to stream on video-on-demand platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Fandango At Home. You can purchase the film for $24.99 or rent the movie for $19.99. For rentals, you have 30 days to start watching the video and 48 hours to finish once started.
A24 has not yet announced the Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD release date, though it will likely be sometime in August 2025. Stay tuned for more details.

Materialists is distributed by A24 Films. Under a multi-year deal struck in December 2023, A24 agreed to bring its theatrical releases exclusively to Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform, HBO Max (formerly known as Max).

Materialists will likely arrive on Max within three to five months, or sometime between September and October 2025, though pinpointing an exact release date is difficult, as A24’s streaming timelines on Max have varied over the past year.
For example, A24’s Death of a Unicorn premiered in March and is set to debut on HBO Max on July 25, just under three months later. Nicole Kidman’s Babygirl took exactly four months to hit the platform. Meanwhile, the award-winning The Brutalist had one of the longest waits at nearly five months, and 2024’s Civil War followed a similarly lengthy timeline.
