Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen, Metallica, and Evanescence reenter the top 10 on the U.K.’s Rock and Metal Singles chart as Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath fall. For the past several weeks, both Ozzy Osbourne and his band Black Sabbath have appeared in lofty positions on the charts in the United Kingdom, as listeners in the late rocker’s home country mourn his passing and honor his legacy by streaming and buying his biggest hits. As is always the case when such a surge occurs for a sad reason, those tunes have started to decline, especially on the country’s rundown of the top rock and metal tracks. That’s the tally where Osbourne and Black Sabbath fully displayed their immense popularity, and this frame, as some of Osbourne’s most popular tunes and a handful of Black Sabbath cuts fall, several other classics by other superstar acts are able to return to the highest tier.
Metallica, Queen and Evanescence Return
Four songs return to the top 10 on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart this week. All of them regularly spend time within that region, but they were recently pushed out as Osbourne and Black Sabbath surged.
“Can’t Stop” by Red Hot Chili Peppers leaps highest, jumping from No. 12 to No. 7. That tune is followed by a trio of comebacks, including “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen (No. 8), “Enter Sandman” by Metallica (No. 9), and “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence (No. 10).
Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath Fall
Making room for Metallica, Queen, and others, a pair of Osbourne tunes and two Black Sabbath favorites fall. Last week, Osbourne’s “Mama, I’m Coming Home” and “No More Tears” sat at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, and now they dip to Nos. 12 and 13. Black Sabbath sat just behind the group’s own frontman at Nos. 6 and 7 with “War Pigs” and “Iron Man,” which have now declined in stature to Nos. 15 and 16, respectively.
AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Disturbed Rise
Several other popular smashes are also on the rise within the top 10 on the Official Rock and Metal Singles chart, though they don’t need to return to the highest tier. “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls finds its way back to No. 1, swapping spots with “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath, which dips to the runner-up slot.
“The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed, “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, and “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses all inch north several spots, settling in at Nos. 4, 5, and 6, respectively, after landing in the lowest spots within the uppermost region just a few days ago.
