Miley Cyrus Charts Her First No. 1 Country Hit

Miley Cyrus has been recording and releasing music for nearly 20 years, as she first began her musical career as Hannah Montana, a character that will turn 20 later this year. Throughout the nearly two decades, Cyrus has been a musical superstar, she has shared work that can be classified under many different genres. While she’s largely known as a pop star, Cyrus has also dipped her toes into electronic dance, hip-hop, rock, and from time to time, even country.

Cyrus has partnered with her godmother Dolly Parton on a handful of projects, including, most recently, the rerelease of one of the country legend’s tunes. Parton recruited Cyrus, as well as Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah, and Reba McEntire, to put a new spin on “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” in honor of her eightieth birthday. The track launches on a pair of sales charts in America, and it helps Cyrus earn her first No. 1 on one Billboard tally.

“Light of a Clear Blue Morning” Debuts at No. 1

“Light of a Clear Blue Morning” opens atop the Country Digital Song Sales chart, Billboard’s list of the bestselling country-only tracks on platforms like iTunes and Amazon throughout the U.S. Luminate reports that in its first full tracking frame, the collaboration sold 7,700 copies – easily enough to make it the biggest country cut in the nation, at least when looking at pure purchases.

Miley Cyrus Charts Her First Country Sales Leader

As “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” debuts at No. 1 on the Country Digital Song Sales chart, Cyrus scores her first leader on the list. The collaborative tune brings her to the top 10 for only the second time in her career.

Cyrus first reached the loftiest tier in 2024 when she joined Beyoncé on the Grammy-winning “II Most Wanted.” Another two cuts crediting Cyrus – “The Climb” and a reworked take on “Wrecking Ball” with Parton – also reached the ranking, and they both stalled at lucky No. 13.

Queen Latifah Hits the Country Charts for the First Time

Of the five women credited on “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” Cyrus is one of two that reach the No. 1 space on the Country Digital Song Sales chart for the first time. Queen Latifah lands an initial leader on her first visit to the roster. Her current success is less surprising than Cyrus’s, as Latifah is known primarily for her work in hip-hop, and not the country field.

Reba McEntire’s History on the Country Sales Chart

McEntire doubles her rulers on the Country Digital Song Sales chart thanks to the quick adoption of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” She joined Thomas Rhett, Hillary Scott, Chris Tomlin, and Keith Urban on the single “Be a Light,” which spent two frames ruling the country-only tally back in the spring of 2020.

Dolly Parton And Lainey Wilson Both Score a Third No. 1

Both Parton and Wilson score their third No. 1s on the Country Digital Song Sales ranking this week. Parton amazingly earned both of her leaders only last year. She first dominated the tally with “If You Hadn’t Been There,” a tribute to her late husband, which launched in March 2025. Six months later, in September, Parton joined the Zac Brown Band on “Butterfly,” which also commanded the list for a short time.

Wilson snagged her first two winners several years back, and only a few months apart. In September of 2022, “Wait in the Truck,” a collaboration with Hardy, started at No. 1 and would go on to lead the charge for half a dozen frames. Wilson’s own “Heart Like a Truck” debuted only about a month after “Wait in the Truck,” but waited until the following January to peak at No. 1.

“Light of a Clear Blue Morning” Opens on Three Lists

“Light of a Clear Blue Morning” sold so well that it nearly tops the Digital Song Sales chart, the non-genre-specific version of the Country Digital Song Sales list. On that roster, Bruno Mars continues to run the show with his new smash “I Just Might,” while “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” is forced to settle for second place. The collaborative affair also opens at No. 41 on the Country Airplay roster.
