The conclusion of the adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s masterpiece premieres in August 2026.

One year since the first part of the first-ever screen adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s iconic novel made its global debut, Netflix announced it has set the date for the highly anticipated second and final part of the sweeping story of One Hundred Years of Solitude.
The visually stunning adaptation of the Colombian author’s masterpiece, which earned widespread acclaim from critics, dominated Netflix’s charts in Colombia and secured a spot in the platform’s Global Top 10, will premiere in August 2026.
The series represents one of Latin America’s most ambitious audiovisual productions, filmed entirely in Colombia with support from the García Márquez family. The author’s sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo, served as executive producers to ensure the adaptation remained true to their father’s vision.
“We have approached the second and final part with the same rigor, ambition, and respect for the novel,” Netflix stated in the announcement.
Laura Mora returns to direct the final installment, this time joined by co-director Carlos Moreno. Mora, whose work on the first part alongside director Alex García López was instrumental in bringing the magical world of Macondo to life, will guide the multi-generational saga of the Buendía family to its prophesied end.
What’s Next for Macondo
The second part picks up after the armistice and signing of the treaty of Neerlandia. Peace remains elusive in Macondo as the Conservatives plot against Colonel Aureliano Buendía, setting in motion events that bring Fernanda del Carpio from Bogotá to the town. Her marriage to Aureliano Segundo, one of the bastard Arcadio’s twin sons, gives Úrsula Iguarán her first legitimate heirs.
Meanwhile, José Arcadio Segundo accomplishes the patriarch’s dream of connecting Macondo with the world. The railroad’s arrival opens the doors to the banana company, unleashing the town’s downfall and ultimately fulfilling Úrsula Iguarán’s curse.
Returning cast members include Marleyda Soto as Úrsula Iguarán and Claudio Cataño as Colonel Aureliano Buendía. New additions to the ensemble include Ángela Cano, Emmanuel Restrepo, Estefanía Piñeres, María Adelaida Puerta and Carla Baratta.

García Márquez’s novel, first published in 1967, is one of the most celebrated works of magical realism. It has sold over 50 million copies and been translated into more than 46 languages. The Netflix series marks the first-ever screen adaptation of the Nobel laureate’s iconic work, produced entirely in Colombia with support from the García Márquez family.
The production was divided into two parts of eight episodes each due to the complexity of the story and production demands. The first installment required nine months of filming and an additional year of post-production before its December 2024 release.
According to Netflix, the project has contributed over $54 billion to Colombia’s economy, underscoring its significance beyond the cultural realm.
