As the Carolina Panthers and Bank of America announce a long-term extension of the naming rights agreement for Bank of America Stadium, the venue itself is undergoing a major shift. David Tepper, owner and chairman of Tepper Sports & Entertainment, says that the stadium has spent more than three decades creating memories for fans and he wants to transform “this corridor into a weekend destination for world-class sports, entertainment and community events.”
To do so, he’ll touch every inch of the stadium with a $1.3 billion renovation focused on the fan experience. New renderings from architect HOK and the team of the Charlotte, North Carolina, stadium that originally opened in 1996 show expanded indoor-outdoor gathering spaces across all levels, a 500-level social patio with views of Uptown Charlotte, larger and more dynamic scoreboards and displays, upgraded seating options, new premium offerings and technology designed to create a more connected and personalized experience.
The renderings also reveal a fresh vision for the stadium exterior, with upgraded materials and a signature illuminated crown for the Queen City skyline. The team said that future design details will draw inspiration from the people, places and landscapes of the Carolinas as the team aims to create spaces that feel authentic to the region.

Additionally, improvements include expanded retail and food-and-beverage options, increased restroom capacity and flexible event spaces aimed at supporting gameday operations and other special events throughout the year. Along with the stadium upgrades, the site will host a 4,400-capacity entertainment venue expected to host 80-100 events each year while doubling as additional hospitality space on NFL gamedays.
“Our goal is to create experiences that enhance the passion and energy of the region,” Tepper says.

A long-term extension of the naming rights agreement for the stadium extends a relationship between Bank of America and the Carolina Panthers that has been in place since the bank took over naming rights on the venue in 2004, still one of the longest-standing naming rights agreements in the NFL. The bank and the team have a shared history dating to the early 1990s when former Bank of America CEO Hugh McColl was instrumental in helping secure the NFL expansion franchise for the Carolinas and the bank’s hometown.
“The extension recognizes Bank of America Stadiums’ important role of attracting millions of visitors, driving economic opportunity and showcasing Charlotte and the Carolinas,” says Brian Moynihan, chair and chief executive officer of Bank of America.

Initial renovation plans called for an $800 million project, but that’s changed. The City of Charlotte remains capped at $650 million for the project from existing hospitality and tourism taxes and Tepper Sports & Entertainment will cover the remaining balance on the $1.3 billion project, including any cost overruns and maintenance obligations.

Construction on the multi-year renovation is phased to allow the stadium to host Carolina Panthers games and Charlotte FC matches throughout the project. Interior work is taking place in 2026 with fan-facing elements set to begin construction in 2027. Renovations are scheduled for a 2030 completion.
“For over three decades, Bank of America Stadium has helped create lasting memories for our fans,” Tepper says, “and we’re excited for them to see what’s ahead.”
