Olivia Rodrigo Blocked From A New No. 1 — By Another Singer Named Olivia

In the United Kingdom, the first single from all three of Olivia Rodrigo’s albums have hit No. 1 on the Official Singles chart. Anticipation for new music from the pop-rock superstar is always so high that when that first taste of an upcoming collection finally arrives, it typically launches at the summit.

Her first album managed back-to-back leaders, and the project she will release in less than two weeks, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, almost managed the same feat – but as of this week, it narrowly misses out on repeating that feat.

Olivia Rodrigo Debuts “The Cure” – but Not at No. 1

Rodrigo recently pushed “The Cure” as the second single from You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The track arrived in mid-May, and it debuts on half a dozen charts in the U.K. this week. “The Cure” opens in second place on the Official Singles tally, the list of the most popular songs of any style throughout the nation.

Olivia Rodrigo Falls Behind Another Olivia

Once again, the Official Singles chart, the most competitive songs tally in the U.K., is led by “Rein Me In,” a duet between Sam Fender and Olivia Dean. The track was originally a solo affair featured on Fender’s latest album People Watching, but the collaborative take, which includes current hitmaker Dean, has turned out to be not just a smash, but one of the longest-running rulers of all time.

As of this period, “Rain Me In” has now spent a lucky 13 weeks atop the Official Singles chart. It is tied with Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” another recent behemoth, and the two jointly claim to be the seventh-longest-running rulers in U.K. history.

Olivia Rodrigo Scores Her Tenth Top 10

While Rodrigo might miss out on a fourth leader – she has already conquered the Official Singles chart with “Drivers License,” “Good 4 U,” “Vampire” and most recently “Drop Dead,” the first piece of music shared from You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love – she does earn her milestone tenth appearance inside the top 10. 18 songs by the Grammy winner have placed on the tally, and several that have missed out on the uppermost region have spent time within the top 40. “The Cure” is so far her only tune to fail to rule by just one space.

“The Cure” Rules Three Rankings in the U.K.

“The Cure” may not launch at the Official Singles chart’s summit, but it does manage to open at No. 1 on several other rankings. Rodrigo adds another leader to her discography on the Official Physical Singles, Official Singles Sales and Official Vinyl Singles rosters this week. She is now up to three No. 1s on the rundown that looks only at purchases on physical formats, four on the Official Singles Sales tally – the most comprehensive of all rosters looking at purchases – and five on the Official Vinyl Singles register.

“The Cure” Misses No. 1 on a Trio of Charts

“The Cure” comes in beneath the No. 1 space on just as many charts as it leads. In addition to the Official Singles ranking, Rodrigo’s latest debuts at No. 3 on the Official Streaming tally, and it starts its time at No. 13 on the Official Singles Downloads rundown.
