Should Crystal Palace Sack Unhappy Oliver Glasner?

Crystal Palace supporters were clear in their opinion as they held a banner that declared Oliver Glasner “finished” as the club’s manager ahead of last week’s win over Wolves. The Austrian was once a hero to the Palace support. Now, he is being blamed for dragging the Eagles further and further down the Premier League table.

Last season, Glasner led Crystal Palace to FA Cup glory. The club celebrated its first major piece of silverware which also saw Palace qualify for European soccer. The outlook at Selhurst Park could hardly be any more positive. That positivity, however, has ebbed away over the course of the 2025/26 campaign.

Glasner has publicly complained about Palace’s transfer strategy, stating that he and his squad had been “completely abandoned.” This was after Marc Guehi was sold to Manchester City in the January transfer window, following on from Eberechi Eze’s departure to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

Had it not been for a failed medical, Jean-Philippe Mateta would have left to join AC Milan in January too. Glasner possibly had some grounds for complaint, but the frequency of his negative public remarks have led some to suggest he wants to be fired before the end of the season, when he has already confirmed he will depart.

“100% assurance,” said Glasner when asked if he still had the backing of the Palace board. “If the players believe in me and the staff, that’s the most important thing. Otherwise, you can pack your suitcase and go home because the players have to perform on the pitch. We have great togetherness in the group – players, staff, really positive. The same with the sporting director and the chairman.”

The feeling within the Crystal Palace fanbase is that the club has squandered the opportunity to build on last season’s success. The Eagles are still in the Conference League, but having struggled for top form in the competition few believe they are going to go all the way.

In the Premier League, Palace still has some work to do in order to secure safety from relegation. Recent wins over Brighton and Wolves have eased concerns that Glasner’s team could get sucked into the bottom three, but the Eagles still need a few more points on the board before they can exhale.

If Glasner is already preparing to leave at the end of the season, why wouldn’t Crystal Palace get rid of him before then in order to give itself the best chance of success after the summer? Glasner doesn’t want to be there and the supporters have had enough of his comments and antics too.
