Steven Spielberg’s alien thriller Disclosure Day, starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, is new on digital streaming this week as the film winds down its run at the domestic box office.

Directed by Spielberg, Disclosure Day opened in theaters nationwide on June 12. The film follows cybersecurity expert Daniel Kellner (O’Connor), who is on the run from a non-governmental organization after he steals computer files that contain sensitive information about the existence of alien life on Earth.

When Daniel establishes an otherworldly connection with TV meteorologist Margaret Fairchild (Blunt), the two fall into peril as they desperately try to find a way to disclose the shocking footage on a global scale despite concerns by the government over how people are going to react to it.

Featuring a screenplay by David Koepp from an original story by Spielberg, Disclosure Day also stars Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson and Wyatt Russell.

Disclosure Day opened with $44.5 million in North America ticket sales from 3,824 June 12-14. As of Friday, the film has earned $113.2 million domestically and nearly $119.7 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $232.9 million. The film had a production budget of $115 million and a marketing expenditure of about $80 million, per Variety.

Disclosure Day has slowly been shedding theaters, dropping from 3,824 North American venues at opening to 3,357 locations in its third week of release. The film then dropped to 2,702 theaters in week four and 2,204 in its fifth week of release, before dropping again to 1,288 venues on Friday.

The lack of screens is beginning to show in the film’s box office numbers. In Disclosure Day’s fifth weekend of release from July 10-12, the film earned $3.3 milliion from 2,204 venues for a No. 9 finish.

‘Disclosure Day’ Arrives On PVOD On Tuesday

Disclosure Day will be available to purchase or rent on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, July 22, as confirmed by a new listing on Prime Video.

In addition to Prime Video, Disclosure Day is available to pre-order for $24.99 on Apple TV, Fandango at Home and YouTube Movies & TV. Since most new PVOD releases are $5 less than purchase prices, Disclosure Day should be available to rent for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.

While Disclosure Day underperformed at the box office, the film at least has the momentum of a solid critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer as the film tries to find a new audience on PVOD. Currently, Disclosure Day has an 80% “fresh” critics’ score based on 422 reviews on RT and a 70% “fresh” Popcornmeter score on the aggregation site based on 5,000+ verified user ratings.

RT’s Critics Consensus for Disclosure Day reads, “A humanistic variation on one of Steven Spielberg’s most revisited themes, Disclosure Day‘s breathless pursuit of optimism in an age of conspiracy gets its biggest boost from career-highlight work by Emily Blunt.”

Rated PG-13, Disclosure Day is still playing in theaters and will arrive on PVOD on Tuesday.
