As Taylor Swift’s new single “I Knew It, I Knew You,” taken from Toy Story 5, debuts on the Billboard charts, the song makes history across multiple tallies. It should come as no surprise to anybody who has been following the singer-songwriter’s unmatched career that the cut was an instant bestseller and quick win on streaming platforms.

What is slightly surprising is just how well it has performed on traditional radio, thanks to Swift’s star power, her history of racking up smashes that the American public wants to hear when they turn on their radios, and the fact that “I Knew It, I Knew You” fits perfectly within both pop and country formats. The single debuts within the top 10 on multiple airplay tallies. As the Grammy champion collects another major win on the Country Airplay roster, Swift makes history and joins one of the genre’s greatest stars of all time.

Taylor Swift Manages an Extremely Rare Arrival

On this week’s Country Airplay chart, one of the most competitive lists in the U.S. and the longest radio roster published by Billboard – it features 60 spaces – “I Knew It, I Knew You” debuts at No. 8. Billboard reports that Swift is now only the second artist and first woman to launch a track within the top 10 on the Country Airplay tally.

It’s been nearly 19 years since Garth Brooks became the first musical artist to do so. In September 2007, his comeback track “More Than a Memory” opened in the top spot, and since then, no other musician has accomplished the feat.

Taylor Swift Scores Her Fortieth Career Radio Hit

As “I Knew It, I Knew You” arrives, Swift scores her milestone fortieth career placement on the Country Airplay chart. 19 of those singles – almost exactly half of her hits – have surged into the top 10. That sum grows thanks to the immediate adoption of “I Knew It, I Knew You” across country radio stations throughout the U.S.

Seven of those compositions have surged all the way to No. 1, and there’s a high likelihood that Swift may earn an eighth leader in the coming weeks as “I Knew It, I Knew You” continues to remain in heavy rotation.

Here are all of Taylor Swift’s top 10 hits on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart.

  • “Back to December”
  • “Begin Again”
  • “Fearless”
  • “Fifteen”
  • “Highway Don’t Care” with Tim McGraw
  • “I Knew You Were Trouble”
  • “Love Story”
  • “Mean”
  • “Mine”
  • “Ours”
  • “Our Song”
  • “Picture to Burn”
  • “Red”
  • “Should’ve Said No”
  • “Sparks Fly”
  • “Teardrops on My Guitar”
  • “Tim McGraw”
  • “White Horse”
  • “You Belong with Me”

Taylor Swift Returns to Her Country Roots

Swift introduced herself to Americans as a country artist, and her first several full-lengths, those that catapulted her to global fame, can be labeled perfectly under that genre label. Of course, after conquering that field, Swift pivoted to top 40 pop, and since then she has also explored indie and alternative music as well.

“I Knew It, I Knew You” earns the star her first top 10 on the Country Airplay chart in more than a decade. Billboard notes that the last time one of her singles pushed into the most competitive space was back in December 2013, when “Red,” featured on the album of the same name – which helped her bridge her work from country to pop – peaked at No. 7.

Lainey Wilson Also Debuts on the Country Airplay Chart

Only two songs debut on the Country Airplay chart this week. As Swift scores the higher-ranking of the pair, Lainey Wilson, joined by John Mayer, starts “Phone, Keys, Wallet” at No. 30.
