Disney+ has announced a deal with The Pokémon Company International and Aardman that will bring the new stop-motion Pokemon series Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu to Disney+ in 2027.

As part of the deal, Disney+ will also stream the 1990s animated series Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, which is the first official arc of the Pokémon anime, covering Ash Ketchum’s adventures through the Kanto and Orange Islands regions. That series started airing on Disney XD earlier this month and is now streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets.

The announcement was made at the Behind the Scenes with Aardman — ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu panel at Pokémon XP, a major fan event held alongside the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. That event in San Francisco drew more than 50,000 Pokemon fans.

The announcement was accompanied by the release of a brief trailer, which provided a first look at some of the characters in the series.

According to information provided by Aardman, “the new series is set in Pokémon’s Galar region and sees Sirfetch’d and Pichu embark on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown.”

“These stories, full of adventure and heroism, all told from the perspective of Pokémon is made even more exciting through the lens of the incredible filmmakers at Aardman.” said Phil Rynda, Director of Original Animation, The Pokémon Company International. “Audiences will be delighted getting to know the Sirfetch’d and Pichu, and wonderful cast of Pokémon, featured in this series. Aardman has brought Galar to life in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the tree bark, and want to adventure alongside our series heroes.

“Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today,” added Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family. “Our new series Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu brings Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry with a bold, playful new perspective to this beloved world, giving audiences a fresh way to experience the characters they know and love. Along with Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, these series are powerful additions to Disney+.”

It’s not clear if this announcement will have an impact on the deal The Pokémon Company International has with Netflix, which currently streams older Pokemon series such as Indigo League, Pokemon XY and Pokemon Horizons, as well as the Pokemon movies Secrets Of The Jungle, The Arceus Chroinicles and Mewtwo Strikes Back. Netflix also produced several new original Pokemon series, including Pokemon Concierge and Pokemon Horizons.
