The Odyssey filmmaker Christopher Nolan and stars Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and several other cast members appeared in New York City on Tuesday for the film’s U.S. premiere.
Written and directed by Nolan, The Odyssey — a nearly three-hour film epic based on Homer’s epic poem — chronicles the treacherous, years-long journey of Odysseus (Matt Damon), the Greek king of Ithaca Odysseus’ to find his way home to his wife, Queen Penelope (Anne Hathaway), and their son, Prince Telemachus (Tom Holland).
The Odyssey will begin playing in preview screenings on Thursday afternoon and will open in theaters nationwide on Friday. The reception of the film by critics has been overwhelmingly positive, from early online reactions last week to full reviews on Wednesday. Industry box office prognosticators are also projecting a massive opening for the film as some estimates place the film’s opening weekend in North America as high as $20 million.
As the hype for The Odyssey continues to build, Nolan and several of his cast members of the film are in midst of the film’s global press tour. The Odyssey’s press run kicked off in London on July 6, followed by stops in Mumbai, Paris and Tuesday night in New York City.
