ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1477 Hints, Clues And Answer For Saturday, July 5th

The long 4th Of July weekend is rapidly hurtling toward its conclusion. It’s been quite lovely. Summer is in full swing and I’m just hoping we get more monsoon weather soon to cool off these hot days in the high mountain desert. We’re also rapidly approach Wordle #1500. With fewer possible answers remaining than Wordles we’ve already solved, I keep wondering what the New York Times will do when we run out, though that’s still over two years away. For now, we’ll solve today’s.

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Today’s Wordle is plural.

The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

SPARE only left me with 90 remaining solutions but even with two yellow boxes, I had a bit of trouble with this one. BOINK slashed that number to 8, which wasn’t ideal (Wordle Bot says I should have picked CAROL here, and I tend to agree). VICAR left me with two, though I only came up with ATRIA. The other was RADII which is kind of an insanely obscure word. The really curious thing here is that typically Wordle answers aren’t plural, but today’s was. It just didn’t end with an ‘S’ which I think must be the actual rule (no plurals ending in ‘S’ so no “BOOKS” for instance).

Competitive Wordle Score

We tied, so the Wordle Bot and I get no points for that and no points for guessing in four. Our July totals remain:

Erik: -2 points

Wordle Bot: 4 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “atria” is the plural of “atrium,” which comes from Latin atrium, meaning “central court” or “hall” of a Roman house. Its origin is uncertain, but it may be related to the Latin ater, meaning “black” or “dark,” possibly referring to the sooty appearance of early Roman homes with central hearths.
