At last, the weekend. I’m ready for it. Not that I actually take weekends or anything like that, but I enjoy the fact that so many other people have weekends off and then they come and read my streaming guides and TV show reviews and movie reviews and all the other fun stuff I get to write about when I’m not writing about Wordle. Speaking of which, let’s solve this puppy!

Today’s Wordle Answer: Saturday, August 8

Today’s Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

STEAL was a terrible opener today, leaving me with 315 words, but IRONY (which I used because STEAL sounds like STEEL and IRONY has IRON in it, yeah I’m a nerd) slashed that number down to just 3. I could only come up with two: PRIVY and GRIMY and while they are, in many ways, words that have a lot in common, I did recall GRIMY being a Wordle in the past. And while there are repeat Wordles now, they are rare. So I went with PRIVY and that was the Wordle!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. Our new August gap doth widen:

Erik: 8 points

Wordle Bot: 2 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“Privy” comes from Old French privé, meaning “private” or “personal,” from Latin privatus (“private, withdrawn from public life”). Hence privy to means privately informed, while privy for a toilet comes from the idea of a private place.
