Most rap musicians rely on hefty streaming sums to conquer the Billboard charts, either with exciting new songs or full-length projects. Hip-hop dominates as the biggest genre in America, easily taking the lead on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, where users gravitate toward the style in huge numbers. A handful of artists in the competitive space have developed fan bases that are eager to purchase new music, not just stream it, and Travis Scott is leading that charge, especially when it comes to albums.

The rap powerhouse’s new full-length JackBoys 2, which credits him both as a solo act and as a member of the group JackBoys, conquers several Billboard charts this week, thanks largely to an impressive opening sales sum.

JackBoys 2 Opens at No. 1

JackBoys 2 — the sequel to the simply-titled JackBoys, which arrived several years ago — opens at No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and the Top Album Sales chart. Luminate reports that the full-length shifted 232,000 equivalent units in its first tracking period, with more than 160,000 of those being actual purchases. Both sums easily prove to be enough to send Scott and his fellow musicians to the summit of two of the most important album rankings in the United States, as when it comes to pure sales, nobody could compete.

Ateez Misses Returning to No. 1

This week, the second-bestselling album in the U.S. is Golden Hour: Part 3 by K-pop boy band Ateez. That project rockets up the Top Album Sales tally from No. 12 to No. 2 thanks to 70,200 copies sold. That’s less than half of what JackBoys 2 managed during a truncated tracking week, as the set didn’t arrive on Friday as is typical, but later in the weekend.

Travis Scott Beats Ateez and Twice

Scott and company outsell the next two bestselling projects in America this week with no real competition for the top spot on the Top Album Sales list. Coming in just behind Golden Hour: Part 3 is Twice’s This Is For, which starts with 67,800 copies sold. JackBoys 2 outsold both Ateez and Twice with tens of thousands of copies to spare.

Travis Scott Also Dominates the Genre Charts

JackBoys 2 also manages to dominate both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts as it arrives. The set doesn’t quite make it to the summit on the Vinyl Albums or Top Streaming Albums tallies, instead entering those lists at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.
