President Donald Trump said strikes in Mexico to disrupt drug trade are “okay with me,” telling reporters he is open to taking military action in the neighboring country as the U.S. continues to conduct deadly strikes against alleged drug boats off the coast of Venezuela.

Key Facts

Trump, who was asked if he would launch strikes in Mexico or deploy American troops to the country, said, “It’s okay with me, whatever we have to do to stop drugs.”

Trump said he has been speaking with Mexican leaders who “know how I stand,” saying drug lords are “killing our people, that’s like a war.”

The president said he would “probably” go to Congress for approval of military strikes in Mexico, though he did not do the same before greenlighting strikes off the coast of Venezuela.

Forbes has reached out to the Mexico Ministry of Foreign Affairs for comment.
