President Donald Trump on Monday posted a video of Detroit Lions player Amon-Ra St. Brown doing the “Trump Dance” during a touchdown celebration on Sunday, a seeming response to the widely covered videos of the president getting booed while attending the Lions-Washington Commanders game.

Key Facts

Trump posted a video on Truth Social of St. Brown seemingly pointing directly at the president’s seat amid the suites at Northwest Stadium in Maryland, the Commanders’ home stadium, and doing the twist dance with his fists at his side, a signature move of Trump’s from his campaign rallies.

The post from the president, who went viral for doing the bobbing and fist-pumping motion at several campaign events, called the move the “Trump dance.”

When asked about the touchdown celebration after Sunday’s game, St. Brown, who did not endorse a candidate ahead of the 2024 election, said “I just decided to have some fun and do the dance.”

Key Background

Trump became the first sitting president since Jimmy Carter in 1978 to attend a regular season NFL game Sunday, but when he was shown on screens late in the first quarter and introduced at halftime, coverage captured large sections of attendees booing his appearances (there were also scattered cheers). Trump then read an oath for members of the military to recite as part of an on-field ceremony, during which was also jeered. He spent 10 minutes in the Fox broadcast booth, and while on air, he called a few plays and spoke about his high school football career, admitting he never scored any touchdowns: “At least you realize I never tell a lie,” he said.
