Coyote vs. Acme, Will Forte and John Cena’s live-action and Looney Tunes animated hybrid opened strong in theaters over the weekend — so will that impact on when the film comes to streaming?
Originally produced by Warner Animation as an HBO Max original, Acme Vs. Coyote avoided becoming permanently shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery as a tax write-off but was acquired for distribution by Ketchup Entertainment in March 2025. The indie studio previously distributed the 2025 Warner Animation feature The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
Acme vs. Coyote earned $15.9 million from 3,575 North American theaters in its opening weekend, finishing second behind the summer’s box office juggernaut Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Forte stars in Coyote Vs. Acme as Kevin Avery (an obvious nod to animation pioneer Tex Avery), who takes on Wile E. Coyote’s lawsuit against the Acme Corporation after decades of using what he claims to be faulty equipment in his neverending quest to capture the Road Runner. Cena plays Buddy Crane, a smooth-talking attorney who attended Harvard Law School with Kevin and now serves as Acme’s chief legal counsel.
Rated PG, Coyote vs. Acme also stars Lana Condor as Kevin’s niece and law firm associate Paige, while Eric Bauza voices several classic Looney Tunes characters featured in the film, including Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn and Tweety.
‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Should Premiere On PVOD In About A Month
Generally, Ketchup Entertainment has a month-long window between the time its films premiere in theaters and the day they arrive on digital streaming via premium video on demand.
For example, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie premiered on PVOD on April 15, 2025, just over a month after it opened in theaters on March 14, 2025. However, another Ketchup Entertainment release, the family drama Goodrich — starring Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis — arrived on PVOD on Nov. 12, about three and a half weeks (25 days) after its theatrical release on Oct. 18.
Since Coyote vs. Acme is a release akin to The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, the film will likely play in theaters exclusively for a month before it is released on PVOD. Should Coyote vs. Acme follow the same path as its Looney Tunes movie predecessor, then fans can expect the film to arrive on PVOD on or around Sept. 29, since new releases on digital streaming typically arrive on Tuesdays.
Generally, new films on PVOD are available on a variety of digital platforms including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV, and cost anywhere between $19.99 and $29.99 to purchase or $14.99 to $24.99 to rent for 48 hours.
When Coyote vs. Acme comes to streaming video on demand, it will, ironically, make its SVOD debut on HBO Max, which is the place it was scheduled to premiere on in the first place.
Generally, there is about a two-and-a-half-month window between the time between Ketchup Entertainment’s releases in theaters and their debut on SVOD on HBO Max.
So, should Coyote vs. Acme follow the same release pattern as The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie — it premiered on HBO Max on June 27, two-and-a-half months (105 days) after its March 14 theatrical premiere date — then viewers can expect the film to arrive on the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platform on or around Dec. 11; since new SVOD releases on HBO generally premiere on Fridays.
