Drake has been a global musical superstar for nearly two decades at this point. He scored his first worldwide win in 2009 with the single “Best I Ever Had,” which quickly proved that he was a hip-hop musician to watch closely, as exciting things were to come. Since then, he’s become one of the most successful artists in the history of the Billboard charts, and even as the company introduces new rankings, Drake finds a way to stand out among the best and the brightest, and sometimes beat his own records.
Drake Holds at No. 1 With “Janice STFU”
On this week’s Billboard Global 200, Drake holds at No. 1 with his single “Janice STFU.” The Iceman focus track launched at the summit last frame, and this time around, it’s comfortable in the highest rung once more.
“Janice STFU” Gives Drake a First Several-Week Ruler
“Janice STFU” became Drake’s fourth leader on the Billboard Global 200 when it launched only a few days ago, and now it has managed a feat he had yet to accomplish before his latest single arrived. “Janice STFU” is Drake’s first multi-week ruler when it comes to Billboard‘s ranking of the most popular songs all around the planet. His previous three leaders – “Rich Flex” with 21 Savage, “IDGAF” with Yeat and his own “What’s Next” – all similarly started their time on the tally at No. 1, but then slipped out of the penthouse immediately.
Drake Claims Two Top 10s This Week
Last frame, nearly two dozen songs by Drake debuted on Billboard‘s global rankings as his latest albums Iceman, Habibti and Maid of Honour launched at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively, on the Billboard 200. As should be expected, most of those tracks backtrack on the Billboard Global 200, and several disappear.
This frame, he claims just two top 10s, down from an astounding eight last time around. As “Janice STFU” holds on to the highest rung, “Shabang,” which has quickly become a fan favorite, dips from No. 5 to No. 9. Multiple tunes that launched within the top 10, such as “Ran to Atlanta” with Future and Molly Santana, “National Treasures” and “Whisper My Name,” step just outside the uppermost tier.
Drake Blocks Olivia Rodrigo from a New No. 1
Drake’s “Janice STFU” is so successful that it keeps another one of the biggest names in the global music industry from scoring another chart-topper. “The Cure,” the second single taken from Olivia Rodrigo’s soon-to-be-released album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, starts its time on the tally at No. 2. It is her first song to stall in that position, and one of 10 top 10s for the Grammy winner. “The Cure” almost becomes Rodrigo’s fifth ruler, but she wasn’t able to pass Drake’s latest.
“Janice STFU” Dominates Seven Billboard Rankings
Of the 15 Billboard charts where “Janice STFU” appears, it rules nearly half of them as the Iceman cut holds in first place on seven rankings. That roundup includes, in addition to the Billboard Global 200, the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the Streaming Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Rap Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and R&B Streaming Songs tallies.
“Janice STFU” steps out of the spotlight on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and Rap Digital Song Sales charts, though it doesn’t fall very far, and it holds inside the top three on both of those purchase-focused rundowns. There’s more good news for “Janice STFU” when looking in America. The single hits three radio rosters, debuting on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (No. 22), Rap Airplay (No. 15) and Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts (No. 28) simultaneously.
