Beyoncé has won her first Primetime Emmy Award, collecting one of the biggest honors in entertainment, and taking another step toward the coveted EGOT status.

The superstar earns the trophy for her work as a credited costume designer on her Netflix special Beyoncé Bowl. She wins in the category of Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming. She shares the honor with Shiona Turini, Erica Rice and Molly Peters, Chelsea Staebell, and Timothy White.

Beyoncé Bowl’s Emmy Win

The now-Emmy-winning special doubled as halftime show during the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans football game that took place on December 25, 2024. The short program featured the first live performances of tracks from her 2024 album Cowboy Carter, which went on to win the Album of the Year Grammy.

Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, Reyna Roberts, Shaboozey, and Post Malone joined her on the field for the event to showcase a number of tunes from her critically-acclaimed set.

Beyoncé Still Up for Two More Emmy Awards

This could be just the beginning of Beyoncé’s Emmy wins this year. She’s still in the running for two more trophies for Beyoncé Bowl — Outstanding Variety Special (Live) and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, both of which will be handed out September 6–7 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

A Long List of Past Emmy Nominations

Beyoncé has previously racked up multiple Emmy nods, this is the first time she’s turned one into a win. Her 2019 concert documentary Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé earned her four nominations, Lemonade snagged her two, and she was also recognized for On the Run Tour: Beyoncé and Jay-Z and her Super Bowl Halftime Show. She even earned a Daytime Emmy nomination with her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson. Until now, every bid had come up short.

Halfway to an EGOT

With an Emmy secured, Beyoncé is halfway to EGOT status — the rare distinction of winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. She already holds a record 35 Grammy Awards and earned an Academy Award nomination for best original song for “Be Alive” from King Richard in 2022.
