Chiefs Star Patrick Mahomes Enlists Eric Stonestreet In Latest Coors Light Ad

In what has become an annual, Rocky Mountain cold tradition during hot summers, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes stars in a new Coors Light commercial.

Since the NFL doesn’t permit its active players to endorse alcoholic beverages, the beer company once again produced a clever work-around.

In the fifth Mahomes/Coors Light collaboration, which launches across Coors Light’s social and digital channels on July 15, Mahomes takes a backseat and enlists two-time Emmy winner Eric Stonestreet to take the spotlight.

In the “Mahomses” campaign, the Modern Family star acts as Mahomes, takes Coors Light out of a fridge and ices his arms and legs — a calculated scene since Coors Light bills itself as being “Cold as the Rockies” — after a hard workout while the actual Mahomes looks on in a director’s chair.

“He’s one of those people who can make anything funny,” Mahomes said in a press release. “Honestly, he looked a little too comfortable taking my job.”

Stonestreet, who appeared on stage to kick off the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, Mo., was an obvious choice for this role because the Chiefs superfan is a Kansas City native.

He is probably the most passionate fan among a slew of comedic actors with Kansas City roots, including Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis and Rob Riggle.

Like Stonestreet they don’t miss a Chiefs game — let alone a Chiefs play.

“We’re all similar viewers,” Stonestreet said during a Big Slick charity event he co-hosted in Kansas City, “in that we don’t want to talk a lot during games.”

To commemorate the Stonestreet/Mahomes collaboration, limited-edition autographed posters featuring Stonestreet and Mahomes in matching garb are available on Coors’ website for $150 beginning on July 16. Proceeds go toward Mahomes’ 15 and the Mahomies Foundation.

“Working with Eric on this year’s Coors Light campaign was easily one of my favorites to date,” Mahomes said.

Coors Light commercials during the four previous summers have seen Mahomes take “The Patrick Plunge” in a cold tub shaped like his head, ride a Coors Light train before the forbidden footage was buried in a time capsule at a Coors Brewery, hang out with the Coors Light Bear and promote a Coors-brand flashlight called “The Coors Light” instead of Coors Light.

Because Mahomes is the face of the NFL, it’s no surprise that Coors Light is just one of the brands for whom Mahomes is a spokesman.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP, who signed an NFL-record, eight-year, $504.75 million contract extension last month, also endorses Hublot, Adidas, State Farm, T-Mobile, Oakley, CommunityAmerica Credit Union, Whoop, Throne SPORT COFFEE, Meta, Invisalign, Panini and Airbnb.

Mahomes, who memorably celebrated his Super Bowl LVII win by joking he would down 100 Coors Lights, is selective in what he promotes.

“It’s got to be something that’s true to me and that I truly care about,” Mahomes exclusively shared. “I love to meet the people that are behind the scenes, the people that come up with these campaigns.”
