In an upcoming Prime documentary on Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi has the highest of praise for the Serbian tennis legend.
“Nobody can touch what he’s accomplished,” Agassi says in the upcoming feature-length film NOVAK DJOKOVIC: The Wolf in Winter. “He’s the best of all-time.”
Agassi, the eight-time Grand Slam champion and part-time TNT tennis analyst, briefly coached Djokovic from May 2017 until March 2018.
The new film is scheduled to premiere globally on Aug, 20 and “offers a deep dive into the life and career of the 24-time major champion,” per TennisNow.com.
It’s directed by Jason Hehir, who also directed the 10-episode series on Michael Jordan, The Last Dance, and features interviews with tennis legends Agassi, Rafael Nadal and Pete Sampras as well as tennis journalists Mary Carillo, Howard Bryant, Christopher Clarey and Matt Futterman
Djokovic emerged from war-torn Serbia as an outsider in a tennis world dominated by Nadal and Roger Federer and eventually eclipsed them both with a record-tying 24 Grand Slam titles.
“You need to be elegant and sophisticated to play the game,” says his wife Jelena in the film. “And you need to be the chosen one. Novak was not the chosen one.”
Said Djokovic himself: “There are days when I feel like I’m the best, there are days where I’m doubting myself a lot. How long should I do this? Why am I putting myself and my family through this over and over again? The No. 1 doubter is here, and I’m trying to prove myself wrong more than anybody else.
“People think you’ve achieved so many great things and now you should enjoy. I cannot enjoy.”
Djokovic is coming off a semifinal loss to eventual champion Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. He has not won a major title since the 2023 U.S. Open, but repeatedly reaches the semis and finals of Grand Slams before running into Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic will be featured this week at Fanatics Fest in New York City ahead of the start of the U.S. Open next month.
