Drake Blocks Himself From New No. 1s On Multiple Charts

Last week, Drake completely dominated Billboard‘s R&B, hip-hop and rap charts. He had three albums’ worth of material for fans to consume, as he dropped a trio of full-lengths – Iceman, Habibti and Maid of Honour – at the same time. As is typically the case whenever a musician fills the majority of spaces on any genre-focused tallies, many of Drake’s tunes have started to descend. He is still the king of many lists, but most of his lofty debuts are on the decline – except one.

“Shabang” is proving to be a fan favorite from this latest chapter in Drake’s career. In its second week on the charts, the cut bucks the trend and manages to climb to new peaks on multiple tallies. “Shabang” almost hits No. 1 on a handful of rosters, but Drake keeps himself from earning another leader.

Drake’s “Shabang” Rises to No. 2

“Shabang” appears on nine Billboard charts this week, and it climbs on five of them, reaching a new high point on each and every one as it surges. The tune now sits at No. 2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Rap Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and Rap Streaming Songs tallies, and at No. 3 on the Streaming Songs rundown. “Shabang” debuted at No. 4 last frame on all of them, and if it weren’t for another single by the same powerhouse, the song would become a ruler on each and every one of those listings.

Drake Blocks Himself from No. 1 With “Janice STFU”

Drake’s own “Janice STFU” keeps “Shabang” from adding to his list of rulers. That Iceman single launched at No. 1 on a variety of Billboard charts a few days ago, and it is comfortable on the throne. “Janice STFU” is present on an incredible 15 rankings, and it’s steady at No. 1 on seven of them. That roundup includes the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200, as well as the aforementioned hip-hop and rap rosters.

Drake Already Claims Dozens of Leaders

While Drake does not score another No. 1 on any of the four tallies where “Shabang” sits at No. 2, he has already racked up dozens of leaders. Drake claims the fewest No. 1s on the Rap Streaming Songs chart, where he’s up to 24 ruling hits. He’s earned 29 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs list, and 32 leaders on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and the slightly more specific Hot Rap Songs rundowns.

“Shabang” Replaces “Ran to Atlanta” at No. 2

Drake does not replace himself at No. 1 on any of the charts where “Shabang” currently resides in second place, but he does swap one No. 2 smash for another. Only days ago, “Ran to Atlanta,” a collaboration with both Molly Santana and Future, missed out on ruling as it came in behind “Janice STFU.” This time around, “Ran to Atlanta” slips to third place, making way for “Shabang” to climb.

Drake Owns the Top 10 on Several Billboard Charts

Drake dominates the entire top 10 on two of the four charts where “Shabang” nearly runs the show. He does not allow another artist to appear within that region on both the Hot Rap Songs and Rap Streaming Songs tallies, though he doesn’t quite manage that showing on the more all-encompassing lists.

Drake fills 70% of the slots within the top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs register, only one single not credited to Drake – Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” – ruins his winning streak. Last week, “Billie Jean” fell to No. 21, and now the former chart-topper is back at No. 7.
