Ella Langley earned her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in February. “Choosin’ Texas” replaced “Aperture” by Harry Styles atop the ranking of the most popular songs in the United States, but it would not hold for long. Just one frame later, Bad Bunny’s “DTMF” replaced the country singer-songwriter – though Langley would return.
“Choosin’ Texas” has now managed six separate runs in first place on the Billboard Hot 100, and its current one is the most impressive. As the career-making smash once again commands the chart, Langley’s breakout smash ends a tie with one pop star and forms another with several of the sturdiest hits of all time.
Ella Langley Reaches 16 Weeks at No. 1
As of this week, “Choosin’ Texas” has spent 16 frames atop the Billboard Hot 100. The roster ranks the most popular songs in the country using streaming activity, sales and radio airplay to show what Americans are listening to.
Last time around, “Choosin’ Texas” matched the run managed by Styles’s “As It Was.” The two jointly claimed the distinction of being the seventh-longest-running No. 1 hits in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, but only for a few days.
Ella Langley Ties Three Historic No. 1s
“Choosin’ Texas” is now tied with three other tracks that also spent exactly 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. That group includes “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber, and Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night.”
Wallen and Langley scored a top 10 smash on the Billboard Hot 100 together earlier this year with “I Can’t Love You Anymore.” That collaboration is currently steady at No. 4 – the highest it has climbed thus far.
Ella Langley Is Three Weeks From the Next Record
“Choosin’ Texas” will have to remain at No. 1 for another three frames before it ties any other songs on the all-time list. “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” both dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 weeks apiece, doing so in 2019 and 2024, respectively.
Only recently did Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” pass both of those country hybrids. Her holiday staple, which returns to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 every year, has now accumulated 22 stays in the penthouse. That figure will likely expand again this coming December and January, and “All I Want for Christmas Is You” may soon become the first 25-week No. 1, and from there, who can say how many more frames it will lead the charge?
Ella Langley Has Ruled for Six Straight Weeks
“Choosin’ Texas” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the past six weeks. Before its current stretch, the smash had added to its total through runs lasting either two or three frames each.
Langley had to step aside for a month as Drake’s “Janice STFU,” Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” and Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” all blasted in at No. 1, with some spending multiple periods running the show. Ever since the July 4 week, “Choosin’ Texas” has been the No. 1 song in America, and it may continue to hold that honor for several more weeks, if not a month or longer.
