It’s a legitimate question. In just a few years, TikTok Shop went from an experimental social commerce platform to one of beauty’s most influential discovery engines and a fast-growing sales channel. In 2025, it became the fourth-largest beauty retailer in both the U.S. and the U.K., recording 84% and 60% year-on-year growth in beauty sales, respectively.
U.S. beauty sales on TikTok Shop exceeded $1.55 billion in 2025, with K-beauty brands dominating the skincare segment while American brands like Tarte and MAC Cosmetics were among the top five best-selling makeup brands. But indie and small brands are also benefiting from the growth of the platform, showing that brands of all sizes can perform well on the platform. As it becomes a leading discovery and conversion channel for brands, being present on TikTok Shop is quickly becoming a business imperative.
TikTok Shop Becomes Brands’ Main Discovery Platform
According to new research by GlobalData and commissioned by TikTok Shop, 67% of U.S. consumers go to TikTok Shop when they want to discover new products and brands. That’s way ahead of Amazon, search engines, physical stores or other channels that consumers go to for product discovery and engagement.
Ajay Salpekar, head of beauty for TikTok Shop, explains: “What’s different about TikTok Shop is the way discovery is organically embedded in our platform’s DNA. Shoppable content is both entertaining and educational, and it remains a natural part of the TikTok experience by connecting shoppers with engaging content from brands of all sizes and creators.”
Interestingly, small brands benefit the most from newfound visibility on the platform, with 72% of consumers discovering small brands on TikTok Shop in the past year, compared to 40% for mid-sized and 33% for large brands, many of which already enjoy strong equity and awareness.
But TikTok Shop’s strenghts go further. On top of visibility, TikTok Shop has become a notable conversion driver, with discovery translating directly into action. Indeed, over half (55%) of TikTok Shop users who discovered a beauty brand on the platform went on to buy from it directly. That number is even higher for smaller brands, with 58% of users purchasing after discovery, highlighting the full-cycle benefits of the channel. The path from discovery to purchase is seamless and fully integrated, facilitating awareness, intent and the overall purchase journey.
Why Beauty Thrives on TikTok Shop
GlobalData findings tell us that beauty is the platform’s strongest-performing category to turn discovery into dollars: 53.4% of users who discover a beauty brand on TikTok Shop go on to buy it—the highest conversion rate of any category. On top of that, beauty shoppers spend 55% more on TikTok Shop ($59.84) than they do off-platform ($38.54). These numbers make a compelling case for why beauty brands really must think about their marketing strategy with the platform.
Beauty is indeed well suited to TikTok Shop because the category naturally aligns with the platform’s strengths: visual storytelling, creator influence, impulse purchasing, and demonstrable results. From the start, content on TikTok Shop was meant to facilitate visual content: creators can demonstrate products, share tutorials, answer questions, and provide authentic feedback. This gives beauty brands of all sizes a unique opportunity to interact with consumers, in a way that feels natural and engaging.
“Beauty is one of the top-performing categories where live shopping thrives, because the format allows fans to join in and see products in action, while being able to ask questions directly to the host,” says Salpekar.
He adds that “since TikTok Shop launched in Sept 2023, more sellers and creators use LIVE shopping as a recurring sales and customer-engagement format.” Findings support the effectiveness of livestream shopping, with 76% of consumers who engaged with TikTok Shop between 2024 and 2025 buying something from a livestream. Beauty indeed lends itself well to live demonstrations, Q&A sessions, and limited-time offers. Viewers can ask questions about shades, ingredients, or application in real time, increasing confidence and conversion rates.
While not every conversion happens inside the platform, TikTok Shop plays a significant role in keeping brands top of mind and shaping purchase intent. Beyond driving immediate sales, it allows brands to respond to viral beauty trends in real time, connecting their products to emerging conversations as they happen, and creating mental availability in consumers’ minds.
Whether through creator content, livestream shopping or viral product moments, TikTok Shop has fundamentally changed the beauty purchase journey. The platform has reshaped product discovery, while also driving purchase intent and conversion. For beauty brands, TikTok Shop is no longer an emerging opportunity: as it plays an increasingly important role in how younger consumers discover, consider and buy products, having a strategy and dedicating proper ressources for the channel is becoming essential.
