The attack in Jordan, which Trump told Fox News left U.S. forces with minutes to intercept incoming ballistic missiles, came as U.S. and Saudi forces launched strikes on Iranian proxies in Iraq overnight.
Oil futures spiked more than 6.5% Wednesday morning to $84.56 as fears of a wider conflict rose.

The U.S. and Iran paused retaliatory strikes at the end of last week to allow time for a diplomatic conclusion to the war, and Trump indicated as recently as Tuesday he preferred peace talks over new attacks. It’s unclear if Iran’s attack in Jordan happened before or after the U.S.-Saudi attack on Iraq, which reportedly killed 20 people. Authorities have also yet to reveal exactly which military sites and assets were targeted in Jordan, but the U.S. has access to a dozen military facilities in the country, including the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base and the King Faisal Air Base.
