Justin Bieber Misses No. 1 As The Same Smash Blocks Him From Ruling

When Justin Bieber surprise-released his new album Swag, the focus track “Daisies” immediately became a big hit. That single remains one of the pop superstar’s most successful tunes in years, but it’s not the only big win from the Grammy winner’s latest project. “Yukon” has been picking up steam for several weeks, and especially in the R&B space, the Swag tune has become a proper smash.

“Yukon” climbs on almost every Billboard chart on which it appears, and as it becomes another leader for Bieber on a handful of tallies, it just barely misses out on reaching the throne on a few other lists — but it could conquer them very soon.

Justin Bieber Loses Out to Chris Brown

Bieber lands at No. 2 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and R&B Digital Song Sales charts this week. On the busier list, which includes R&B, hip-hop, and rap, “Yukon” advances from No. 4 to No. 2, while on the R&B Digital Song Sales tally, the cut only needs to step up a single spot. In both instances, Bieber is held back by “It Depends,” a collaboration between Chris Brown and Bryson Tiller, which keeps at No. 1.

Justin Bieber’s Two Sales No. 1s

“Yukon” almost gives Bieber his third No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, but for the moment, it’s tied as one of his many No. 2s. Previously, he’s run the show with his own “Yummy,” which commanded the lead for just one frame, as well as with “I’m the One” alongside DJ Khaled, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne. That smash spent nine weeks at No. 1.

Much More Successful on the R&B Digital Song Sales Chart

Bieber is far more successful on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart, which is specific to just that one genre. On that tally, he’s already reached No. 1 nine times, and “Yukon” could very well become his milestone tenth champion.

In addition to “Yummy,” Bieber has also led the charge on the R&B Digital Song Sales list with “Essence” alongside Wizkid and Tems, “Peaches” with Daniel Caesar and Giveon, “No Brainer” (another collaboration with DJ Khaled and Chance the Rapper, as well as Quavo), “Intentions” with Quavo, “Confident” with Chance the Rapper, “PYD” with R. Kelly, and both “Bad Day” and “Recovery,” solo tracks that hit No. 1 more than a decade ago.

Justin Bieber’s “Yukon” Rises to No. 1

While “Yukon” might not be the bestselling track in the R&B space, it is the biggest streaming success. Bieber’s new single leads both the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and R&B Streaming Songs charts, advancing from No. 2 to give him another winner.
