Katy Perry Climbs To New Career Peaks On Several Charts At Once

Katy Perry released the song “The One That Got Away” nearly 15 years ago. The track served as the sixth and final single from her album Teenage Dream, though the deluxe edition would produce several more smashes. The song was the first from that blockbuster to fail to conquer the Billboard Hot 100, though it came very close to doing so.

The catchy cut became the latest years-old tune to suddenly go viral on social media earlier this year, and for nearly two months now, “The One That Got Away” has been rising on two of Billboard‘s most competitive rankings, the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. The first of those tallies details the most-consumed tracks all around the planet, while the latter looks at every country that is not the United States, as its name suggests.

Every frame, “The One That Got Away” climbs to new heights, and just when it seemed like Perry’s hitmaking days may be limited, a decade-and-a-half-old song suddenly becomes her biggest career win on those lists.

Katy Perry Sends “The One That Got Away” to New Highs

“The One That Got Away” appears on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. for just the seventh time. The single did not debut on either list until earlier this year, although Billboard did not introduce the rosters until 2020, nearly a decade after “The One That Got Away” was promoted as a single. After a little more than a month on the worldwide charts, “The One That Got Away” pushes from No. 36 to No. 30 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and from No. 37 to No. 31 on the Billboard Global 200.

Katy Perry Rises Higher Than Ever Before

As “The One That Got Away” continues to ascend, Perry rises to never-before-seen heights on the pair of rankings. Previously, “Cozy Little Christmas” stood as her loftiest placement on the Billboard Global 200. That holiday single danced to No. 60 earlier this year, at the tail end of the most recent Christmas season.

Over on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., “Woman’s World,” which fronted Perry’s latest album, 143, beats “Cozy Little Christmas.” The dance-pop track surged all the way to No. 66, while “Cozy Little Christmas” topped out at No. 81 in the first tracking frame dated in 2026.

Teenage Dream Holds at Its Streaming Peak

The unexpected popularity of “The One That Got Away” has helped its parent album, Teenage Dream, perform better than it has in a long time on the Billboard charts. Last week, the project pushed to a new peak of No. 32 on the Top Streaming Albums list, which explores the most-played collections on platforms like Tidal, Apple Music, Spotify and others throughout the U.S.

Fans have been consuming Teenage Dream for well over a decade, and constant streams of smashes like “Firework,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and the title track, among others, have consistently helped it appear on at least one ranking – but certainly, the surge attached to “The One That Got Away” is responsible for Teenage Dream rising to that high point just days ago. This time around, the Grammy-nominated effort holds in that position.

Teenage Dream Climbs Again on the Billboard 200

Last week, Teenage Dream also broke back into the top 40 on the Billboard 200, which ranks albums in terms of total consumption, with both sales and streams playing a role in where a title lands. Teenage Dream sat at No. 40, and now it advances to No. 37. That is not a new peak, and the hitmaking machine will not establish one, as it has already conquered the most competitive albums list in the nation in the 470 weeks it has spent on the rundown.
