“Manosphere” influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate’s long-running legal saga took bizarre twists and turns over the past week as the brothers try to dodge extradition to the United Kingdom, where they face 38 new charges—as Andrew Tate claims he’s dealing with solitary confinement and a “cannibal” neighbor in a Florida jail.

Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested by U.S. authorities in Miami after British authorities brought dozens of additional charges against them and announced they would seek extradition.
The lawyer representing Andrew and Tristan Tate, Joseph McBride, claimed in a post on X the brothers are in solitary confinement, calling them “political prisoners” and alleging they were imprisoned for “daring to exercise their First Amendment Rights.”
An unsealed indictment detailed new allegations behind the charges, including claims the Tates had choked women, sometimes until they passed out, and raped them, spanning alleged incidents involving four women between 2010 and 2017.
The Tates appeared in a Florida court, after which McBride told reporters they would fight extradition, claiming they are “innocent” while alleging the new charges were politically motivated.
Andrew Tate said in a post on X he is being held in a solitary unit under the “highest level of security which exists,” claiming he has no contact with the outside world and his “neighbor is a cannibal who screams throughout the night”—though it’s unclear how he’s posting from jail.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Trump administration would not intervene in the Tates’ extradition process (extraditions must be approved by the Department of State).
Rep. Yassamin Ansari, D-Ariz., sent a letter to House Oversight Committee chair Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., urging an investigation into the Tates’ ties to the Trump family, particularly President Donald Trump’s 20-year-old son Barron, to determine whether Trump or his family “interfered” with the Tates’ legal issues or extradition proceedings.
What Do We Know About The Tates’ New Charges?
British authorities announced over the weekend they had brought 38 new charges against the Tate brothers—32 for Andrew and six for Tristan—adding to the 21 combined charges both brothers already faced. Among Andrew Tate’s new charges are seven counts of rape, three counts of sex trafficking, three counts of assault and 19 charges related to child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate’s new charges include one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three sex trafficking counts. The Crown Prosecution Service said it would seek the Tates’ extradition to the United Kingdom to prosecute the 59 total charges. McBride has claimed the Tates are innocent, and he has accused the “despotic” British government of seeking to “bury them in a foreign prison for the rest of their lives.” McBride has repeatedly called the charges politically motivated, suggesting earlier this week the charges “had a lot to do with” former U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stepping down, also noting the charges were announced shortly after the Tates visited “friends in Washington, D.C.”
What Do We Know About The Tates’ Ties To Trump?
The Tates, who are fervent Trump supporters, appear to have numerous ties to the Trump family, particularly Trump’s youngest son Barron. The New York Times reported last year that Barron Trump and Andrew Tate had cultivated a relationship while Trump was campaigning for the presidency in 2024, as part of his outreach to influencers to win over young male voters. The Times reported Andrew Tate and Barron Trump had met over Zoom and discussed their “shared belief that the Romanian criminal case was an effort to silence the Tates.” The Times reported Tate called Barron Trump after the assassination attempt on his father, later telling reporters: “I’m very close to the Trump family. I look forward to, once I am free, being with Donald Trump in person and reminding him that he’s a bulletproof badass.” McBride told the Times its reporting about Tate’s relationship with Barron Trump is “fake news.” After Ansari announced she had urged the House Oversight Committee to investigate Tate’s relationship with Barron Trump, McBride claimed on X the request is evidence Tate’s charges are “political.” “I told you they were coming for Trump next,” McBride said. Other members of the Trump family have previously voiced support for the Tates, including Donald Jr., who called it “absolute insanity” when the Tates were detained in Romania in 2023.
What Are The Tates’ Allies Saying About Their Charges?
Some of the Tates’ allies on the right appear to have backed off from publicly supporting them. Alina Habba, a lawyer whose appointment as acting U.S. attorney was ruled unlawful last year, previously told Tate she was a “big fan,” but after the Tates were arrested on Saturday, she did not return their representative’s call, the New York Times reported. Members of the Trump family have not commented on the case, aside from Leavitt saying Trump will not intervene. Conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has previously backed the Tates, has remained silent, while Tucker Carlson told the Times he believes the Tates were arrested because they “criticized Israel.” But Nick Fuentes, a far-right commentator who has advocated white supremacy and denied the Holocaust, took to X earlier this week to declare: “FREE ANDREW AND TRISTAN TATE.” In another post, Fuentes said it would be a “humiliation for the United States to allow the UK to extradite Andrew and Tristan Tate, two American citizens, over trumped up ‘Me Too’ charges.”

The Tates, influencers considered part of the “manosphere,” have been the subject of charges and investigations spanning the United States, United Kingdom and Romania. In the U.S., Florida opened a criminal investigation against the Tates last year after they moved to the state when Romania lifted travel restrictions. The Tates were arrested in Romania in 2022 on charges of leading an organized crime group and human trafficking, and the case was set to head to trial, but a judge sent the indictment back to prosecutors citing procedural issues. British authorities handed down the first 21 charges in May 2025.
