One Of The Biggest Rock Songs This Century Finally Hits No. 1

Despite ranking as one of the biggest rock bands in America over the past several decades, the Killers have scored only one top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The group barely broke into the region with “Mr. Brightside,” which peaked at No. 10 on the ranking of the most popular songs in the United States.

Since its 2003 release as the first official single from the Las Vegas-based band, “Mr. Brightside” has become not only the Killers’ signature song, but also an enduring favorite among millions around the world.

In the United Kingdom, it is the longest-charting hit of all time, and nonstop streaming also keeps the classic present on several Billboard tallies in the U.S. week after week. This frame, “Mr. Brightside” reaches new peaks on multiple rankings – seemingly thanks to its connection to sports and the end of the World Cup – and finally rises to No. 1 on a roster where it spent years climbing.

The Killers Finally Reach No. 1 with “Mr. Brightside”

“Mr. Brightside” lifts one space from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Rock Streaming Songs chart. The ranking focuses on the most-streamed rock tracks in the U.S., and it plays host to both new arrivals and smashes released years, if not decades ago, on a regular basis.

The single finally takes control of the tally in its three-hundred-sixty-eighth week on the roster. “Mr. Brightside” becomes the band’s first No. 1 on the Rock Streaming Songs chart.

The Killers Reach New Peaks on Multiple Charts

“Mr. Brightside” establishes new high points on another two Billboard rankings this week. The longtime favorite from the rockers rises from No. 20 to No. 17 on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart.

The cut also advances six spaces on Billboard Global Excl. U.S., surging from No. 52 to No. 46. That roster uses sales and streaming activity compiled from territories around the world – though the U.S. is purposefully excluded from the chart.

“Mr. Brightside” Sits at Its All-Time Peak on Several Lists

The Killers’ smash also performs well on another pair of charts published by Billboard this frame. “Mr. Brightside” rises from No. 4 to No. 3 on the Alternative Streaming Songs chart, returning to its previously-established peak.

The track holds steady at No. 27 on the Billboard Global 200, which is as high as it has climbed. Unlike Billboard Global Excl. U.S., that ranking does include sales and streams from America, as well as consumption from the rest of the world.

“Mr. Brightside” is the only song by the Killers ever to appear on the Streaming Songs, Rock Streaming Songs, Alternative Streaming Songs, Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. rankings. As the tune lifts, the band hits new career peaks as well.

The Killers Return With Hot Fuss

The continued – and perhaps even shocking – popularity of “Mr. Brightside” helps power its parent album, Hot Fuss, find its way back to one Billboard chart. The collection reenters the Top Rock Albums ranking at No. 24.

Hot Fuss simultaneously steps up on three other, similar rosters. The full-length rises to Nos. 17, 29 and 104 on the Top Alternative Albums, Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Billboard 200 charts, respectively.

“Mr. Brightside” remains the most famous single from the project, but it is not the only single still drawing listeners to Hot Fuss. “Somebody Told Me,” “All These Things That I’ve Done” and “Smile Like You Mean It” also helped turn both the album and the Killers into rock superstars.
