The World Cup may be over, but the music connected to the sporting event continues to perform well around the world. Shakira was one of the many superstars who contributed to the tournament’s musical facet, and her collaboration with Burna Boy, “Dai Dai,” remains a major hit in the United Kingdom.
This week, “Dai Dai” debuts on one roster in the U.K., earning Shakira her first appearance on the list in more than a decade and a half.
Shakira Returns to the Physical Singles Chart
“Dai Dai” opens at No. 79 on the Official Physical Singles chart this week. The ranking focuses on the bestselling songs in the U.K. purchased on physical formats, including CD and vinyl. The collaboration brings Shakira back to the roster with a new hit for the first time in more than 15 years.
Shakira Ends a 15-Year Absence
Shakira last debuted on the Official Physical Singles ranking in October 2009 with “She Wolf.” That tune performed considerably better than “Dai Dai” has so far, as it rose all the way to No. 2.
Shakira Scores Her Ninth Physical Chart Hit
Shakira has now placed nine tracks on the Official Physical Singles chart throughout her career. Half a dozen of them have climbed into the top 10, while “Dai Dai” establishes a new low for the superstar thanks to its No. 79 starting placement.
Shakira has scored a pair of No. 1 hits on the roster, as both “Hips Don’t Lie” alongside Wyclef Jean and “Beautiful Liar” with Beyoncé have taken short turns ruling.
“She Wolf” reached No. 2, matching the peak of “Whenever, Wherever,” Shakira’s first hit on the tally, which stalled in the runner-up rung more than two decades ago. “Underneath Your Clothes” and “Don’t Bother” also broke into the highest tier, topping out at Nos. 3 and 7, respectively.
Burna Boy Scores His First Physical Chart Win
“Dai Dai” brings Burna Boy to the Official Physical Singles chart for the first time. The collaboration has already helped the Nigerian superstar rise to new career highs on multiple rankings in countries around the world. Now, it also gives him his first bestseller on the top physical singles roster in the U.K.
Shakira’s “Dai Dai” Remains a Top Five Hit Elsewhere
“Dai Dai” appears on four additional U.K. charts this week, and it lives inside the top five on all of them. The collaboration holds at No. 1 on the Official Streaming chart and remains at No. 2 on the Official Singles ranking, matching its all-time high on both rosters.
On the main songs tally, “Dai Dai” is blocked yet again from becoming a No. 1 by “Rein Me In,” the historic collaboration between Sam Fender and Olivia Dean. “Rein Me In” has now spent 21 weeks running the show on the Official Singles chart, and as it keeps in first place, the tune extends its lead as the song with the most frames at No. 1 in the history of the ranking.
“Dai Dai” also remains a top five bestseller on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts yet again.
Shakira’s World Cup Classic Also Charts
Shakira claims one more hit in the U.K. this week with “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” alongside Freshlyground. The former World Cup anthem appears on three rankings: the Official Streaming, Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts, buoyed in part by the success of the singer’s even-newer soccer-related track. “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” declines on all three rosters this frame, but the fact that it’s still present at all speaks to the song’s popularity – and Shakira’s.
