The tradition of Wimbledon has long included “Breakfast at Wimbledon” with the men’s and women’s finals beginning at 2 p.m. local time – 9 a.m. EST.
But that will change this year when both finals will begin at 4 p.m. in London – 11 a.m. EST.
Doubles finals will precede both singles matches.
On Saturday, No. 8 Iga Swiatek will meet No. 13 Amanda Anisimova in the women’s final.
On Sunday, the men’s final will feature the winners of Friday’s semifinals between No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 5 Taylor Fritz and No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 6 Novak Djokovic.
“We have adjusted the provisional schedule for the final weekend of The Championships with the ambition of improving the experience for all involved,” All England Club chief executive Sally Bolton said, per The Independent.
Bolton said the move was made in part to emphasize the doubles finals. The men’s doubles final is at 1 p.m. local time Saturday, with the women’s doubles final the same time on Sunday.
“The doubles players competing in the finals will have increased certainty over their schedule and fans will enjoy each day’s play as it builds towards the crescendo of the ladies’ and gentlemen’s singles finals, with our champions being crowned in front of the largest possible worldwide audience.”
So instead of “Breakfast at Wimbledon” in New York, it may be more like “Brunch at Wimbledon.”
