President Donald Trump said the U.S. naval blockade against Iranian ships is back on after the agreement with Iran to end the war has failed just weeks after it was announced.

Key Facts

Trump announced Monday on Truth Social the U.S. will again begin blocking ships coming in and out of Iran.

The lifting of the blockade was part of the agreement between the U.S. and Iran reached last month to end the war, which has been cancelled largely over disagreement on control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said Monday the U.S. “will be, from this point forward, known as ‘THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,’” and will charge a rate of 20% on all cargo shipped “for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
